PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The Painted Desert Demonstration Projects (PDDP) is continuing the efforts to develop a Local Food Hub and Makerspace. Key to this development is upgrading the existing solar array to allow PDDP to run essential infrastructure consistently and without reliance on diesel generators. The expanded array will power the building, which includes the Local Food Store and Makerspace, as well as the well pump. The PDDP Well is a critical source of drinking water for the community. With a lack of water infrastructure throughout the Navajo Nation, many local Tribal residents travel to PDDP each week to collect and haul clean water back to their residences.
