This program aims to develop infrastructure for the Hopi food hub, enhancing local Hopi workforce development, completing the construction of a Food Hub Facility, and ensuring effective program management to uphold the previous objectives.
The Hopi Tribe, spanning approximately 1.5 million acres, is largely considered a "food desert" with limited access to healthy food options. Because of this problem, the need for a functional local food system is apparent. This program attempts to fix this issue through the construction of a local food hub, containing a community kitchen space, meeting rooms, and offices for staff or volunteers. Future plans will include a passive greenhouse and large cold storage.
The overarching goal of this program is to successfully establish and operate a local food hub to provide to everyone within the "food desert" and increase the overall resilience of the Tribal food system.
